Britney Spears is back in an oh-so-familiar position as Number One Glamour Girl with her latest can-I-top-this bare-bottom cover pose and topless/barely covered layout in Esquire, along with her American Photo cover and upcoming album. Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones has never been more astonishingly beautiful than in her teaming with George Clooney in “Intolerable Cruelty,” lifting her to #2. Beyonce’ Knowles, who has spent the last 13 consecutive weeks in the Top Three (four of those weeks at #1), is #3 with “Baby Boy” as the nation’s #1 single for the past three weeks, and her romantic comedy “The Fighting Temptations” approaching $30 million at the box office; she’s also on the covers of Ebony and the next British FHM. A week away from the debut of her new drama “Beyond Borders,” Angelina Jolie surges to #4 with cover features in Marie Claire, Redbook, British Cosmopolitan, and Biography.

 

Coming soon in the psychological thriller “Gothika,” Halle Berry makes a strong move to #5 with her sizzling FHM cover spread (as the “Sexiest Woman In the World”) and Ladies Home Journal cover. How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn credit for each weekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more credit than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Esquire, GQ, Maxim, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards are also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News tracking the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Bomis, Ask Men.com, Danni’s Hard Drive, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries less weight than the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
