Oscar winner Catherine Zeta Jones has never been more astonishingly beautiful than in her teaming with George Clooney in “Intolerable Cruelty,” returning her to Number One Glamour Girl status even though its box office ($28 million through its third weekend) has been only moderate; she also has a cover feature in Allure. Britney Spears has to settle for #2 (after spending four of the previous six weeks at #1) with her bare-bottom cover pose and topless/barely covered layout in Esquire, several other cover features including British GQ and French Maximal, new single with kissing pal Madonna “Me Against the Music,” and upcoming album. Coming soon in the psychological thriller “Gothika,” Halle Berry is a strong #3 with her sizzling FHM cover spread (as the “Sexiest Woman In the World”), suggestive “Halle Berry Up” cover of Savoy, and Ladies Home Journal cover.

 

Kicking butt on screen like perhaps no previous female star, Uma Thurman (cover girl for Vogue and Arena) soars to #4 thanks to the excellent reviews and box office ($54 million through its third weekend) for “Kill Bill, Vol. 1.” Beyonce’ Knowles, who has spent the last 17 consecutive weeks in the Top Five (four of those weeks at #1), is #5 with “Baby Boy” as the nation’s #1 single for the past five weeks, and her romantic comedy “The Fighting Temptations” approaching $30 million at the box office; she’s also on the covers of French FHM and Ebony. Her new drama “Beyond Borders” suffered a horrendousng weekend, but Angelina Jolie hangs in at #6 with cover features in Marie Claire, Redbook, & Italian Cosmopolitan. Engaging in an epic Samurai sword fight with Uma Thurman in “Kill Bill, Vol. 1’” helps Lucy Liu climb to #7. Every “Kill Bill” fan savors her suburban-home battle to the death with Uma Thurman, and the fight helps sexy King and Heart & Soul cover girl Vivica Fox take a big leap to #9. In between them at #8 is eternal sex bomb Pamela Anderson with her playful cameo in “Scary Movie 3” (huge $48 millionng weekend). The wearer of Victoria’s Secret’s $11 million bra, German swimsuit supermodel Heidi Klum, ascends to #10 with a lingerie cover feature in British GQ.

 

Trivia note: With Uma, Lucy and Vivica, “Kill Bill” becomes only the third movie during the past four years to place at least three of its leading ladies in the Glamour Girls Top 15 simultaneously. Remarkably, Lucy Liu made the elite group for all three films, the others being the two “Charlie’s Angels” epics (the second “Angels” flick produced a record four Top Ten babes with the addition of Demi Moore).

How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn credit for each weekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more credit than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Esquire, GQ, Maxim, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards are also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News tracking the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Bomis, Ask Men.com, Danni’s Hard Drive, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries less weight than the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
