Nicole Kidman returns to reign as Number One Glamour Girl for the first time since January 2002 with her well-earned Academy Award for “The Hours” and multiple magazine covers including British Elle. Her fellow Oscar honoree, Catherine Zeta Jones of “Chicago” (now about to cross the $150 million mark at the box office) fnally steps down after spending 9 of the previous 12 weeks in the supreme position. Italian enchantress Monica Bellucci rises to #3 with her films “Tears of the Sun” and “Irreversible.” Mexico’s Salma Hayek is #4 with the cover of German GQ and fine feature in Interview. A good cover layout in British FHM lifts Jennifer Lopez back up to #5.

Colombian bombshell Sofia Vergara achieves a new personal best ranking of #6 thanks to sexy features in Loaded, DT, and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. She is immediately followed by two more Swimsuit Issue beauties: world tennis #1 Serena Williams (whose latest victory in Key Biscayne makes her 17-0 for the year), and SI cover girl from Czechoslovakia Petra Nemcova. Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1) Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2) Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3) TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4) Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News of the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, Bomis, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, VIP Models, Candy Dreams, TeraBabes, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5) Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6) Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”
