Britney Spears is #2 after two weeks in the top spot with her sizzling and scantily-clad Showtime concert special, Top Ten U.S. and #1 European single “Toxic” (also her best music video to date), and cover features including Elle Girl, MTV Magazine & Seventeen. Sex bomb for the ages Pamela Anderson surges to #3 with her cover layouts in Stuff, French Maximal and German Maxim. The huge box office for the blood-drenched “The Passion of the Christ” (in which she portrays Mary Magdalene) and sexy cover feature in DT place Italy’s Monica Bellucci at #4 (she was #2 last week). Multiple Grammy winner Beyonce’ Knowles is #5 with her latest single “Nasty Girl” (performing a striptease in the video) and national tour; she’s spent 42 consecutive weeks in the Top Ten.

(This is our 92nd published survey dating back to October 2000, each covering two weeks; retroactive biweekly charts covering the period from December 1999 through September 2000 have been compiled, for a grand total of 227 charted weeks.)

Two large heart symbols ©© can be found to the left of all women who have spent at least 10 weeks in the Number One position, or have reached #1 with at least 100 weeks in the Top Ten.

A single large heart symbol © is to the left of all women who have spent 1 to 9 weeks in the Number One position, or who have previously ranked as the #1 Glamour Girl of the Year.

How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn credit for each weekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more credit than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Over 100 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Esquire, GQ, Maxim, etc.) are accorded higher value than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards are also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News tracking the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Bomis, Ask Men.com, Danni’s Hard Drive, Simply Gorgeous, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries less weight than the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
