Bootylicious Beyonce’ Knowles returns to the position of Number One Glamour Girl with her latest Top Five single “Nasty Girl” (performing a striptease in the video), gorgeous cover feature in Harpers Bazaar, and national tour; she’s spent 50 consecutive weeks in the Top Ten. 17-year-old hottie Lindsay Lohan has climbed to #2 thanks to her starring role in the smash comedy “Mean Girls” (about to top $70 million at the box office), memorably cleavage-baring guest hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live,” and covers of Interview and Seventeen; it’s the highest position achieved by anyone under 18 since Britney Spears hit #1 shortly before her birthday back in December 1999. “Alias” heroine Jennifer Garner (#1 the past two weeks) is #3 with her delightful performance in the comedy “13 Going on 30,” and the big third-season finale of her series. Glamour girls earn credit for each weekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more credit than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Over 100 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Esquire, GQ, Maxim, etc.) are accorded higher value than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards are also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News tracking the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Bomis, Ask Men.com, Danni’s Hard Drive, Simply Gorgeous, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries less weight than the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
