Cameron Diaz takes top honors on the Hot 100 for the third consecutive time thanks to the smashing success of “Charlie’s Angels,” which has just moved past the $120 million mark at the box office. But given the extreme closeness of the race for #1, she’s unlikely to repeat again two weeks from now. Former #1 Elizabeth Hurley moves back up a notch to #2 with her dominance at magazine newsstands, and “V.I.P.” star Pamela Anderson is right on her heels at #3. Showing renewed strength behind #4 Britney Spears is Jennifer Lopez, who has a new single moving swiftly up the Billboard charts. Surging back into the Top Ten after being out for a few weeks are Sarah Michelle Gellar and Christina Aguilera. Newlywed Catherine Zeta Jones makes a strong move from #30 to #15 boosted by saturation coverage of her wedding, and the pending release of her film “Traffic” could make the breathtaking Welsh-born beauty a contender for #1. Spanish stunner Penelope Cruz jumps into the Top 30, and is certain to fly still higher once “All the Pretty Horses” reaches theaters. Mila Kunis, the dazzling teenager from “That ‘70s Show,” makes an impressive debut at #46 on the strength of her superb new cover feature in Stuff magazine. A hot new Playboy layout enabled athletic bombshell Gabrielle Reece to make the week’s second highest debut. Meanwhile, the release of new films brought Meg Ryan and Michelle Yeoh onto the chart. glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a
bigger hit. Also, critical acclaim
can earn the same credit as box office dollars. 2)
Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international
publications are included in each survey.
Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily;
recent magazines of the previous month or two count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside
features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals
than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably the London
Sun and USA Today) are also included in this category. 3)
TV: What’s on the tube during the
two-week survey period, including not only series but movies airing on the
networks and appearances in late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings taken into
consideration. 4)
Internet: The major factors in this category are
the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the
Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and Yahoo’s 100 most
popular women based on total websites, Yahoo clubs, and auction items. Selected Web sites are also included,
most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Versus Online,
IGN for Men, Top Net Models, Famous Centerfolds, Women of Desire, Babesites,
