America’s Sweetheart herself, Julia Roberts, earns the Number One ranking for the final Glamour Girls Hot 100 of the year 2001, with her film “Ocean’s Eleven” soaring swiftly past the 100 million mark at the box office. Britney Spears is #2 after holding the #1 spot for 8 of the previous 10 weeks. “Vanilla Sky” femme stars Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz hold the #3 and #5 positions, respectively, with #4 Jennifer Lopez wedged comfortably between them. Oscar hopeful Halle Berry slips slightly to #6, but is sure to head upward again with the pending release of her much-heralded performance in “Monster’s Ball.” Nicole Kidman, the Entertainer of the Year (says Entertainment Weekly) and double Golden Globe nominee, moves back up to #7. Colombian pop star Shakira (#8), Playmate bombshell Victoria Silvstedt (#9), and Gena Lee Nolin nicely round out the Top Ten. Bikini babe Heidi Klum hurtles upward to #15 (from #54 just two weeks ago) with sexy cover features in Elle and British GQ plus cover-girl status in the Sports Illustrated book Knockouts. Several of the world’s other foremost swimsuit models follow directly behind: #17 Daniela Pestova (cover girl of the Sports Illustrated desktop calendar), #21 Rebecca Romijn (FHM cover girl), and #23 Kim Smith (featured in German GQ). Mariah Carey rebounds to #28 with her CBS special and a new greatest-hits album. Pop princess Jessica Simpson is a strong mover at #40 with her glamorous cover layout in the January Maxim. Holiday-season movies provide big lifts to #48 Meg Ryan (“Kate & Leopold”), #50 Liv Tyler & #61 Cate Blanchett (both in “Lord of the Rings”), #56 Jennifer Connelly (“A Beautiful Mind”), and #67 Michelle Pfeiffer (“I Am Sam”). Ms. Roberts is the most powerful woman in show business and the 5th most powerful person, according to Entertainment Weekly.
