THE GLAMOUR GIRLS HOT 100:

Setting another standard in her extraordinary year, Halle Berry becomes the first woman since Britney Spears just over a year ago to score six consecutive weeks as the Number One Glamour Girl, despite ferocious competition.  She does it with the box office heroics of the 007 adventure “Die Another Day” ($140 million plus), sensational cover features in British Maxim and Vogue among many other covers, and designation by Us as the year’s best-dressed female.  Halle’s amazing hot streak means that queen diva Jennifer Lopez has endured the frustration of five consecutive weeks (and six of the last eight weeks) in the #2 position; however, the combined impact of J. Lo’s hit romantic comedy “Maid In Manhattan,” new Top Ten album and #3 single “Jenny from the Block,” and host of magazine covers including In Style almost surely means that her patience will be rewarded with a return to #1 at the start of the new year.  Yet another nearly-naked magazine cover feature in Maxim has kept Christina Aguilera in the #3 spot she’s held for four of the last six weeks, together with her smash single “Beautiful.”

 

Two new Golden Globe nominees for acclaimed year-end films occupy the next two positions: Cameron Diaz leaps to #4 for her role in the Martin Scorsese historical epic “Gangs of New York” plus the cover of Vanity Fair, and Catherine Zeta Jones is up to #5 for her exciting performance in the musical being touted for possible Best Picture honors, “Chicago.”  Shania Twain continues to top the album charts with “Up!” and is #6 here, followed by Mariah Carey with her`comeback’ album ”Charmbracelet” and the cover of Maxim Blender.  Playboy cover girl Tia Carrere is #8; FHM cover girl Brooke Burke is #9; and Elizabeth Hurley earns the #10 position for her remarkable British Vogue cover.

How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks.  Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit.  Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey.  Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value.  Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit.  Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News of the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, Bomis, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, VIP Models, Candy Dreams, TeraBabes, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others. 

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts.  Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly.  This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
