THE GLAMOUR GIRLS HOT 100:

Cameron Diaz starts the new year right by earning Number One Glamour Girl honors for her Golden Globe-nominated performance in the Martin Scorsese epic “Gangs of New York,” which is about to climb over the $50 million mark at the box office, and for her January Vanity Fair cover. Coming on very strong a half-step behind her at #2 is “Chicago” bombshell (and fellow Golden Globe nominee) Catherine Zeta Jones, whose lavish musical is in the Top Ten with terrific per-screen averages; the Welsh stunner also has splendid covers for Esquire, People & Entertainment Weekly. After five consecutive weeks at #2, Jennifer Lopez finally returned to the #1 spot last week for her romantic comedy hit “Maid In Manhattan,” pop chart success and multiple magazine covers, only to slip back to #3 this week. 007’s favorite Halle Berry remains very strong at #4 with the $154 million box office for “Die Another Day” and great British Maxim cover.

 

Pop music sexpots Christina Aguilera (smash single “Beautiful,” scintillating Maxim & German GQ covers) and Mariah Carey (album “Charmbracelet,” Maxim Blender cover) repeat in the #5 and #6 positions, respectively. Julianne Moore reaches a new peak of #7 for her acclaimed performances in “Far from Heaven” and “The Hours,” two positions ahead of her fellow Globe nominee in “The Hours,” Nicole Kidman. In between them at #8 (a personal best) is Sandra Bullock for her audience-pleasing teaming with Hugh Grant in “Two Weeks Notice.” Italian goddesss Monica Bellucci returns to the Top Ten after being selected as the world’s sexiest woman by both Stuff & Italian GQ.

As “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” continues to lord over everything else in multiplexes ($261 million and counting), its elf princess Liv Tyler rises to #11. Shania Twain slips four notches to #12 as her album “Up!” remains hot on the charts. “Frida” Golden Globe nominee Salma Hayek rebounds to #13 with her delightfully sexy cover feature in Vanity Fair. FHM cover girl Brooke Burke is #14, just ahead of multi-magazine cover gal Jennifer Aniston. The acclaim for her performance in “Chicago,” plus a beautiful cover feature in Flaunt, lifts Renee Zellweger to #16. The Grammy nominations have a major impact on this week’s survey. Norah Jones’ five nominations send her soaring from #133 to #47; the five nominations earned by Avril Lavigne lift her from #134 to #54; and Ashanti, Sheryl Crow, and the Dixie Chicks enjoy chart jumps of more than 60 positions each to reach the Hot 100 once again thanks to their Grammy nods.

 

Tongue & Revolver cover girl Jenna Jameson is on the move again to #33. February Playboy Playmate Charis Boyle and nude supermodel Aria Giovanni are up to #36 and #37, respectively. Golden Globe nominee Diane Lane continues her forward momentum to #38. Brazil’s Gisele Bundchen (cover of French Vogue) ascends to #41; Female Athlete of the Year Serena Williams to #42; “Lord of the Rings” favorite Cate Blanchett to #43; and TV’s saucy blonde ”Bachelorette,” Trista Rehn (revealing layout in Maxim) to #44. Some particularly sexy recent episodes of “Charmed” enable Alyssa Milano to move impressively to #48. Clint’s little girl Alison Eastwood leaps to #49 with her nude cover feature in Playboy. How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News of the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, Bomis, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, VIP Models, Candy Dreams, TeraBabes, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
