Britney Spears is back in the #1 position as supreme Glamour Girl for the first time since February 27, and her 18^th week overall, tying her with Jennifer Lopez as record-holder in that department. She accomplishes the feat with her ongoing national tour, a much-hyped cameo in the new “Austin Powers” flick nowng, and her usual dominance on the Internet. Sarah Michelle Gellar slips to #2, as “Scooby Doo” prepares to pass the $150 million mark at the box office. Surging to #3 (a new personal best) is Italian goddess Monica Bellucci with a semi-topless cover appearance in Flaunt and several other current covers; La Bellucci stands an excellent chance soon of attaining #1 for the first time. Jennifer Lopez (still in the Billboard Top Ten with “I’m Gonna Be Alright”) is #4, and Colombia’s pop bombshell Shakira is #5.

 

Mexico’s “Golden Girl,” Paulina Rubio, stands proudly at #6 with her U.S. pop chart success and sexy magazine appearances. Rebounding from the cancellation of “V.I.P.,” Pamela Anderson is back up to #7 with her semi-nude FHM cover layout. Her fellow “Baywatch” alumnus Carmen Electra tops her previous best performance by leaping to #8 due to her largely bare cover features in Stuff and British FHM. Austin Powers’ new leading lady, Beyonce Knowles, wiggles her way up to #9 with the film’s premiere and several covers including Maxim. Back in her usual setting of the Top Ten is Halle Berry, thanks to the strong video chart performance of “Monster’s Ball” and a Good Housekeeping cover.

How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the Bomis Report rankings of models, porn stars, and others with the most website hits. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, VIP Models, Candy Dreams, TeraBabes, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
