The newly-separated Jennifer Lopez returns to the position of Number One Glamour Girl for the first time since last September, giving her a cumulative total of 18 weeks in the top spot since the Hot 100 began in October 2000 (surpassing Britney Spears’ standard of 17 weeks at #1).  She accomplishes the feat with her film “Enough,” yet another smash single, and several strong magazine covers.  J. Lo is followed by our two previous Number Ones: “Star Wars” goddess Natalie Portman, and “Spider-Man” sweetie Kirsten Dunst.

 

Tennis temptress Anna Kournikova soars to her highest-ever ranking, #4, thanks to her crowning by FHM readers as the world’s sexiest woman, and may have a shot at top honors soon on this chart as well.  Ukranian-born Playmate/Pet Victoria Zdrok achieves the honor of reaching the highest ranking (#5) ever attained by a figure model (not counting would-be actress Pamela Anderson), by virtue of her rather astonishing array of current magazine appearances, including Glamour Girls: Then & Now and Celebrity Sleuth among many others.  “Unfaithful” star Diane Lane rises to a new peak of #6 with her steamy hit film.  Long-running Top Ten member Shakira (#7) is followed by Oscar’s favorite bombshell Halle Berry.  An outstanding nude layout in Playboy carries Czech sizzler Adriana Karembeu (aka Sklenarikova) to #9, with the new queen of the pop charts (#1 single “Foolish”), Ashanti, at #10.

Brazil’s Gisele Bundchen slips two notches to #12, but has a good chance of bouncing back thanks to her ranking as #1 sexiest woman in the new Celebrity Sleuth.  #14 Sarah Michelle Gellar continues to edge upward, with the big-screen debut of “Scooby Doo” this weekend.  The ever-hot Denise Richards rises to #15 with her saucy, amusing role in “Undercover Brother.”  Interestingly, the last two “Star Trek” sex symbols rank side by side, with Jolene Blalock at #16 and her predecessor (and Maxim cover girl) Jeri Ryan at #17.  The sexiest British babe of all, Kelly Brook, zooms to #19 with her splendid cover spread in Front.  Sports Illustrated cover girl Yamila Diaz-Rahi—currently gracing the covers of Spanish GQ, British Maxim, & Estylo—takes a big jump to #20 (and coincidentally ranks one notch ahead of that other Diaz, Cameron).  #11-20 in overview:

Stunning Jamaican and Smooth cover girl Carla Campbell is up to #37. 

 

Making a powerful comeback after slipping from the Hot 100 for the first time ever a few weeks ago, Sweden’s Victoria Silvstedt roars to #42 with a Stun cover layout.  Tennis’ new Frenchchampion, Serena Williams, explodes to #43, followed by Capital cover beauty Monica Bellucci. Former Miss Croatia Nina Moric is still on the rise at #46 with British FHM and Celebrity Sleuth features.  The cover girl of the new U.S. FHM, Catherine Bell, flies to #50.  Another strong mover is the magnificent Catherine Zeta Jones at #66 (new British Elle cover).

How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks.  Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit.  Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey.  Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value.  Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit.  Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the Bomis Report rankings of models, porn stars, and others with the most website hits. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, Candy Dreams, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others. 

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts.  Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly.  This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
