Halle Berry’s first cinematic topless scene has paid two quick dividends: it has boosted the John Travolta thriller “Swordfish” to over $50 million through its third weekend, and it has (together with sizzling magazine covers) earned the stunning Halle the Number One position on the Glamour Girls Hot 100. She’ll have a tough time defending the crown, however, against the full-throttle assault being launched by #2 Angelina Jolie as “Lara Croft, Tomb Raider,” which is on its way to $100 million-plus. Pamela Anderson and Jennifer Lopez slip to #3 and #4, respectively, while Nicole Kidman moves up to #5 thanks to “Moulin Rouge.” Catherine Zeta Jones remains strong at #6 with a new Vogue cover and upcoming movie, followed by Janet Jackson and Gena Lee Nolin (who shares the cover of the new FHM). Four weeks at #1 on the pop singles chart with “Lady Marmalade” enables Christina Aguilera to jump to #9, with “Shrek” princess Cameron Diaz at #10. This means that after 19 consecutive biweekly surveys in the Top Ten, Britney Spears finally drops to #11, leaving La Lopez as the only babe with a 100% record of Top Ten rankings. The biggest movers in the #11-20 group are #15 Alley Baggett (with a hot nude layout in the Spanish edition of Playboy plus fresh newsstand edition appearances), #18 Kirsten Dunst (on the eve of her “Crazy/Beautiful” screenng), and #20 Mariah Carey (leaping from #42, powered by her new single and sexy video for “Loverboy”). The current queen of 40-plus sex symbols, “Sex and the City’s” Kim Cattrall, continues her surge to #23. Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen rides a new wave of magazine covers for a 17-position jump to #26, and a fast-rising new album and single lift Jessica Simpson up 23 spots to #39. The week’s highest debuts, at #56 and #57 respectively, are the femme standouts of the surprise summer smash “The Fast and the Furious,” Michelle Rodriguez and Jordanna Brewster. hit. Also, critical acclaim can
earn the same credit as box office dollars. 2)
Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and
international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the
survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous month or two
count at reduced value. Covers
earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals
than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably the London
Sun and USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included
in this category. 3)
TV: What’s on the tube during the
two-week survey period, including not only series but movies airing on the
networks and cable plus appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings
and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration. 4)
Internet: The major factors in this category are
