Janet Jackson makes a dramatic move from #6 to the Number One position on the Glamour Girls Hot 100 thanks to a #1 single, chart-topping album, and some memorably sensual magazine cover features. Ms. Jackson’s surge delays the anticipated return to the top by Jennifer Lopez, who has to settle for her fourth #2 ranking in the last five surveys. However, J. Lo appears destined to earn the top spot next time (which would be her 7th time overall) with her new film “Angel Eyes.” Catherine Zeta Jones slips from #1 to #3 despite the prestigious cover of People’s “50 Most Beautiful” issue. While Britney Spears rebounds from #7 to #4, Janet’s primary current rival atop the music charts, Beyonce’ Knowles of Destiny’s Child, makes another impressive advance from #8 to #5. Penelope Cruz (in the box office hit “Blow”) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (with the season finale of “Buffy”) return to the Top Ten. In the #11 to #20 group, the ladies with the strongest momentum are Canadian supermodel/starlet Estella Warren (#12), Halle Berry (leaping from #30 to #16 with a hot FHM cover layout and the upcoming release of her film “Swordfish”), Christina Aguilera (moving up 10 positions to #17 due to the big chart success for her remake of “Lady Maramalade”), and Playmate of the Year Brande Roderick (zipping from #26 to #19). “Sheena” star Gena Lee Nolin jumps 10 spots to #21 for her sexy cover layout in the new issue of To the Edge. The rip-roaring box office numbers generated by “The Mummy Returns” enable Rachel Weisz to soar from #63 all the way to #25. “Moulin Rouge” will notnationwide for another couple of weeks, but its star Nicole Kidman is already making her move on the Hot 100 (up 15 positions to #29). Similarly, even though her film “Tomb Raider” won’t be out until mid-June, Angelina Jolie jumps from #71 to #48. Other hotties on this week’s chart are perennial supermodel Claudia Schiffer (up 12 more positions to #34), June Playmate Heather Spytek (#36), and new Penthouse Pet & porn star Briana Banks (our highest debut at #58). girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories: 1)
Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office;
films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the
coming weeks. Note that a
glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a
bigger hit. Also, critical acclaim
can earn the same credit as box office dollars. 2)
Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and
international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the
survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous month or two
count at reduced value. Covers
earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals
than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably the London
Sun and USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included
in this category. 3)
TV: What’s on the tube during the
two-week survey period, including not only series but movies airing on the
networks and cable plus appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings
and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration. 4)
Internet: The major factors in this category are
the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the
Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls); Yahoo’s 100 most
popular women based on total websites, Yahoo clubs, and auction items; and the
Bomis Report rankings of models, porn stars, and others with the most website
hits. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the
