Having already been crowned as our official Number One Glamour Girl of the year 2000, Jennifer Lopez is building a powerful case for a repeat performance. J. Lo takes the top spot on our biweekly survey for the seventh time (four more than anyone else) because of her huge array of magazine features, her film “Angel Eyes,” and spectacular success on the Internet and the music charts. Pamela Anderson uses a new cover layout in Playboy to surge from #6 to the #2 position, just ahead of the chart-topper in the last survey, Janet Jackson. Halle Berry was the #8 Glamour Girl for 2000, and that is the position she occupies on the May 30 Hot 100, leaping from #16 with hot magazine covers and the upcoming June 8 release of her film “Swordfish.” Cameron Diaz (a three-time biweekly #1) returns to the Top Ten thanks to the huge success of “Shrek,” for which she provided the lead female voice. Nicole Kidman continues her swift ascent up the chart (from #29 to #14) with the release of “Moulin Rouge,” plus numerous magazine covers. A pair of blockbuster films provide the wind beneath the wings of two hot movers: #20 Rachel Weisz (“The Mummy Returns”) and #22 Kate Beckinsale (“Pearl Harbor”). The latter film also serves as the launching pad for the week’s highest debut at #56 for Kate’s fellow Navy nurse James King. With just two weeks before the anxiously-awaited release of “Tomb Raider,” Angelina Jolie makes another strong move from #48 to #24. The combination of a Penthouse Pet layout and considerable heat on the Internet sends porn star Briana Banks flying from #58 to #35. Steamy new magazine features are responsible for the rapid ascent of #39 Linsey Dawn McKenzie, #40 Petra Verkaik, #41 Cynthia Myers, and #50 Jaime Pressly. And now, the Hot 100 for May 30, 2001. Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office;
films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the
coming weeks. Note that a
glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a
bigger hit. Also, critical acclaim
can earn the same credit as box office dollars. 2)
Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and
international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the
survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous month or two
count at reduced value. Covers
earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals
than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably the London
Sun and USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included
in this category. 3)
TV: What’s on the tube during the
two-week survey period, including not only series but movies airing on the
networks and cable plus appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings
and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration. 4)
Internet: The major factors in this category are
the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the
Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls); Yahoo’s 100 most
popular women based on total websites, Yahoo clubs, and auction items; and the
Bomis Report rankings of models, porn stars, and others with the most website
hits. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the
