A potent combination of her finest screen performance to date (spiced by memorable nude scenes) and promising early box office, plus the cover of Elle, lift “Frida” star Salma Hayek, Mexico’s greatest bombshell, to top honors as Number One Glamour Girl.  After leaping from #9 to #1 last week, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos—the lap-dancing star of “Femme Fatale” (and cover girl of Maxim and Sports Illustrated Presents Ultimate Swimsuit) has to settle for the #2 position.  Cosmopolitan and TV Guide cover girl Halle Berry rises to #3, and is all but certain to return to #1 with her 007 leading-lady role in “Die Another Day” (ng next week).  Jennifer Lopez is #4 with massive publicity over her engagement to Ben Affleck, hit single “Jenny from the Block,” and upcoming new album. 

 

She may be the skankiest babe in pop music, but Christina Aguilera achieves a new personal-best ranking of #5 with the strong chart debut of her new album “Stripped” and huge Internet downloads focused on her nearly-naked music video for “Dirrty.”  Jolene Blalock of “Enterprise” (who set a personal record with last week’s #3 ranking) is now #6 with her hot cover layouts in British Maxim and Ramp. Sweden’s Victoria Silvstedt is #7 with her cover spreads in German Playboy & Best of Maxim.  The chart-topping debut for her album “Cry” (plus In Style cover) enable country cutie Faith Hill to reach #8.  A nude scene in her indie film “The Weight of Water” and the Movieline cover take Elizabeth Hurley back up to #9.  Teen brunette bombshell Megan Ewing soars into the Top Ten for the first time with her scorching semi-topless Photo cover and layout in Spanish GQ.

How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks.  Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit.  Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey.  Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value.  Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit.  Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News of the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, Bomis, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, VIP Models, Candy Dreams, TeraBabes, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others. 

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts.  Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly.  This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
