With her new album a week away, a national tour, Internet dominance, and an armful of magazine covers, Britney Spears returns to the position of #1 Glamour Girl. But Pamela Anderson didn’t relinquish her hold on the top position without a fight, adding a steamy new mostly-nude cover layout in the November British GQ to her impressive recent collection. Jennifer Lopez is a very strong #3 with the country’s #1 pop single and a terrific cover layout in the October British GQ. Estella Warren remains in the top echelon at #4 with a superb new cover feature in the October Photo magazine. Gena Lee Nolin’s nude cover layout in the December Playboy enables the star of “Sheena” to leap to a new peak position of #5, and she’s sure to climb still higher next time. British stunner Kelly Brook achieves her highest ranking to date at #6 with a hot cover spread in the November British Maxim. She’s followed by #7 Sarah Michelle Gellar and #8 Jessica Alba (“Dark Angel”). #9 Janet Jackson has now enjoyed 29 consecutive weeks in the Top Ten, but the streak may be ready to end. Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen cracks the Top Ten for the first time at #10. Curvy “Enterprise” bombshell Jolene Blalock makes another strong move to #13. Elizabeth Hurley jumps to #14 with her semi-nude cover feature in the November Movieline. “Charmed” beauty Alyssa Milano is boosted to #16 by a sexy new layout in British FHM. The biggest mover of all—from #58 two weeks ago to #17—is the star of David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive,” Laura Elena Harring, with the film’s steamy lesbian love scenes (her co-star, Naomi Watts, also takes a strong move up to #53). coming weeks. Note that a
glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger
hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and
other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as
box office dollars. 2)
Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and
international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the
survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks
count at reduced value. Covers
earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals
than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included
in this category. 3)
TV: What’s on the tube during the
two-week survey period, including not only series but movies airing on the
networks and cable plus appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings
