“Mexico’s Golden Girl,” Paulina Rubio, ascends to the position of Number One Glamour Girl for the first time thanks to sizzling magazine cover features in British FHM, the Spanish magazines Man and Eres, D.C. One, and Stuff. Last week’s chart-topper, the divine Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang of “Smallville”), is #2 with her splendid boudoir layout in FHM. Jennifer Lopez remains strong at #3 with her new single “Jenny from the Block,” the shared cover of Vanity Fair, and solo covers of Vanidades & French FHM. Emmy winner and Oscar hopeful (“The Good Girl”) Jennifer Aniston—honored by the Hollywood Film Festival as the year’s best actress—is #4. The smashing box office success of “Sweet Home Alabama” (closing in on $100 million), plus the cover of In Style, brings Reese Witherspoon to a personal-best ranking of #5.

 

“Dawson’s Creek” sweetie Katie Holmes rises to her highest position yet, #6, with the premiere of her thriller “Abandon” and the covers of Arena and Movieline. How the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled

Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories:

1)     Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit. Oscars, Golden Globes, and other honors are included; also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars.

2)     Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous few weeks count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably USA Today) and pin-up calendars are also included in this category.

3)     TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including first-run movies and appearances on late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings and Emmy/Golden Globe awards also taken into consideration.

4)     Internet: The major factors in this category are the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine (including many glamour girls), and the daily top 100 rankings by DAI News of the women with the most photo downloads. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Mac & Bumble, Bomis, IGN for Men, Ask Men.com, Famous Centerfolds, Danni’s Hard Drive, Adversus, VIP Models, Candy Dreams, TeraBabes, Maxim, FHM & GQ websites, and others.

5)     Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. Grammy Awards and other music industry honors are credited here.

6)     Home Video: The video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts as reported in Billboard and Entertainment Weekly. This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.”

7)     Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period.

8)     Other: Broadway and off-Broadway theater; books.

9)     Beauty and Sex Appeal.
