THE GLAMOUR GIRLS HOT 100:
October 18, 2000
Change is the theme for our second
Glamour Girls Hot 100 chart.
Thirty-two of the top 100 are new to the list, and 11 other women moved
up 20 or more positions. Two big
reasons for the heavy turnover: 1) With the Olympics now behind us, 10 of the
11 Olympians on the October 4 chart dropped out (sexy pole vaulter Tatiana Grigorieva was the
sole survivor, slipping from #40 to #97); and 2) with the fall TV season now in
full force, the vixens of the boob tube assumed a newly dominant role in the
rankings.
The same two bombshells battled it out for the top
spots as two weeks ago, but this time reversed positions as Jennifer Lopez narrowly took top honors over Britney Spears. Jessica
Alba shot from #18 to #3 as her new
“Dark Angel” series got off to an explosive start. The premiere of the syndicated
“Sheena” enabled Gena Lee Nolin to skyrocket from #62 to #14. And our highest debut of the week at
#15 is the one and only Cynthia Myers, thanks to her extraordinary cover layout in our new Glamour Girls:
Then & Now Issue #15 (which you
can order right here). Faith Hill jumped from #43 to #22 thanks largely to her Top Female Vocalist
victory at the Country Music Association awards. Nikki Cox
(#29), Alyssa Milano (#36), Jeri
Ryan (#47), and Debra Messing (#51) all made big debuts on the Hot 100 as their
new TV seasons got underway; Alyssa and Debra also boosted their rankings with
major new magazine covers. Playboy was responsible for the big moves made by Miriam
Gonzalez (#43), Playmate Buffy
Tyler (#44), and WWF rassler Chyna (#55).
Pop singer Jessica Simpson
soared from #96 to #48 because of her sexy new cover feature in FHM. Anna
Nicole Smith’s lucrative
courtroom victory helped her enter the chart at #69. And two all-time glamour legends climbed onto the Hot 100
with new films: Farrah Fawcett at
#67, and Catherine Deneuve (on
the eve of her 57th birthday) at #87. Looking ahead: Elizabeth Hurley, currently #5, could challenge for the #1 position
when her sexy new flick “Bedazzled” October 20. Cameron Diaz, now #6, also may be headed for the top when
“Charlie’s Angels” hits theaters November 3—which will

the Glamour Girls Hot 100 Is Compiled Glamour girls earn points for each biweekly chart in the following categories: 1) Movies: The current Top 60 at the box office; films that recently left theaters; and pictures scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Note that a glamorous role in a mid-level film can earn more points than a bland role in a bigger hit. Also, critical acclaim can earn the same credit as box office dollars. 2) Magazines: Approximately 150 U.S. and international publications are included in each survey. Magazines on newsstands during the survey period count most heavily; recent magazines of the previous month or two count at reduced value. Covers earn more points than inside features; top-level magazines (Playboy, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, etc.) are accorded higher point totals than others; nude or semi-nude layouts get extra credit. Newspapers (most notably the London Sun and USA Today) are also included in this category. 3) TV: What’s on the tube during the two-week survey period, including not only series but movies airing on the networks and appearances in late-night talk shows; Nielsen ratings taken into consideration. 4) Internet: The major factor in this category is the Lycos Top 50, a weekly chart measuring the most-searched items through the Lycos search engine, including many glamour girls. Selected Web sites are also included, most notably Gateway to Eden, the Playboy Cyber Club, Mystique, Versus Online, IGN for Men, Top Net Models, Famous Centerfolds, Women of Desire, and others. Additional sites will be rotated in future surveys. 5) Music: The Billboard singles and album charts; MTV and VH-1 music video rankings as published in Billboard; European and international charts. 6) Home Video: The Billboard video sales, video rentals, and DVD sales charts. This category carries about half the weight of the above “Big Five.” 7) Sports: Glamorous gals who earn athletic achievements during the survey period; during non-Olympic periods, this is usually a low-value category. 8) Other: Broadway; books. Usually not a factor. 9) Beauty and Sex Appeal: Finally, my personal evaluations of the ladies, based on their recent media appearances. Women who do not earn significant points in the above 8 categories aren’t eligible here. |
