THE GLAMOUR GIRLS TOP 500 FOR 2001

)   1.BRITNEY SPEARS: The former teenage sexpot (who turned 20 in December) scored another #1 album in the fall with “Britney.”  Her music video for “I’m a Slave 4 U” was one of her sexiest yet, but still steamier was her live, scantily-attired performance on the MTV Video Music Awards cavorting with a giant python.  Several months after performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, she embarked on a sold-out national tour, and dazzled a wider audience with an HBO concert special. Forbes magazine ranked her as the world’s #1 female celebrity, and Blender proclaimed her the sexiest music artist in history.  Britney’s staggering collection of 2001 magazine covers included the Sept. 13 Rolling Stone (with cover in bikini top,shirt, & shorts); the Nov. 9 Entertainment Weekly (“Confessions of a Teenage Sex Kitten,” with cover pose in unbuttoned shirt & come-hither look); the Dec. 6 Rolling Stone (sensational overflowing-cleavage cover in bra & jeans); a good cover & 10 pages in the August Arena; and other publications including (alphabetically) Billboard, Celebrity Skin, Celebrity Sleuth, Complete Woman, Glamour, Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire (Spanish edition), Maxim (British edition), Seventeen, Teen, Teen Beat, Teen Celebrity, Teen Hairstyles, Teen People, Us, Vogue, YM...and many more.  The Louisiana cutie’s status as the #1 goddess of the Internet remained beyond dispute, as verified by her constant presence in the Lycos Top Ten (48 weeks out of 52) among all Internet searches.  A lavish Pepsi ad campaign (TV, movie theaters, billboards, etc.) added to her status as media colossus, and at year’s end she was preparing for the release of her first movie.  Britney was, truly, the queen of all glamour girls in 2001.

Lo put up a tremendous battle to retain her annual glamour girl championship from 2000, but even in falling barely short of Britney the 31-year-old Bronx-born Latina had a monumental year.  From a sex-symbol perspective nothing could surpass the startlingly transparent gown she wore at the Academy Awards, which created such an Internet frenzy to see the nearly bare outfit that she soared to #1 on the Lycos Top 50.  Foremost among her achievements was her #1 album “J. Lo,” which in turn produced the smash singles “I’m Real” (five weeks at #1), “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” (also #1), and “Play.” Neither of her two 2001 movie releases will be long remembered—the frothy romantic comedy “The Wedding Planner” (which earned $60 million) and the suspense flick “Angel Eyes” ($24 million)—but both were at least moderately successful at the box office.  Foremost among her magazine covers were the September Stuff (semi-topless cover &14 pages in scanty attire, for which the magazine paid her a handsome $250,000), the June Arena (“The Woman Who Seduced the World,” with 9 pages including a semi-topless pose); the June Vanity Fair (bikini cover & layout shot by Herb Ritts); and the October British FHM (cover in see-through mesh top & bikini top plus 17 pages on the beach).  Other selected Jennifer covers included Allure, GQ (Spanish edition), In Style, Latina, Marie Claire, New Woman, People, and Practical Photography.  She had a year-end concert special on ABC, and was ranked as the year’s #1 bombshell by FHM.

 

)   3.CATHERINE ZETA JONES: The breathtakingly lovely 32-year-old brunette from Wales guaranteed her fourth consecutive year in the Glamour Girl Top Ten with two big movies: the acclaimed end-of-2000 smash “Traffic” (which brought her a Golden Globe nomination,  a box office gross of $124 million, and was in theaters into early spring), and her teaming with Julia Roberts in the comedy “America’s Sweethearts” ($93 million at the box office).  Mrs. Michael Douglas was an ideal cover girl for the May 14 People “50 Most Beautiful” issue; had a semi-topless cover for the July French edition of Marie Claire; a fine cover with hot pin-up poster for the March Italian GQ; a gorgeous Herb Ritts cover & 7 pages in the July Vogue; and a splendid cover feature in the January Vanity Fair.  Her other covers included Allure, Biography, Entertainment Weekly, Glamour, Ladies Home Journal, Marie Claire (U.S. edition), and Total Film.

 

)   4.PAMELA ANDERSON:  Pam had little difficulty scoring her 12^th consecutive year among the world’s top ten glamour girls ), a streak which includes three years at #1 (1994, 1996, & 1999).  “V.I.P.” remained a goofily entertaining hit in TV syndication.  Pam-demonium struck again as the 34-year-old platinum blonde made a nude return to Playboy in the July issue (cover, poster, & 12 pages); her other key magazine covers during 2001 were the September Front (with 9 pages mostly nude), the October Stuff (bikini cover, foldout, & 10 pages mainly bare), and the November British GQ (9 pages largely nude).  Pammy’s other covers included Arena, Flaunt, Max (Italian edition), Rolling Stone, and Tomorrow.  Britney Spears was the only female to surpass Pam as an Internet attraction this year, according to official Lycos rankings (Pam spent 15 weeks in the Lycos Top Ten; no one else besides Britney had more than 3 weeks).  Playboy.com users voted her the #1 Playmate of the 1990s; Us readers declared hers the world’s best breasts; and Celebrity Skin #100 bestowed upon Pam the title of #1 sexiest ever.

 

)   5.JULIA ROBERTS: Winning the Academy Award as Best Actress for her tremendous performance in 2000’s “Erin Brockovitch” was of course the highlight of Julia’s year, and career to date, and her ecstatic acceptance speech made it still more memorable.  The lighter-than-air comedy “America’s Sweethearts” was surely no prize winner, but earned a solid $93 million; her pairing with Brad Pitt in “The Mexican” proved a disappointment, although earning a reasonable $66 million.  Infinitely better was the delightful year-end Vegas heist romp “Ocean’s Eleven,” on a course to earn more than $180 million; her role as George Clooney’s ex-wife gave her limited screen time, but every minute was vivid.  Time magazine proclaimed the 34-year-old Georgian the queen of Hollywood in its lavish July 9 cover story; the March 19 People cover celebrated “Julia’s Great Year”; Forbes ranked her as the #1 actress on its Celebrity 100 (for her $19 million annual earnings plus media presence); and Entertainment Weekly called her the most powerful woman in show business (and #5 overall).  Julia’s other 2001 covers included Empire, Esquire, Film Review, Good Housekeeping, Harpers Bazaar, In Style, Looks, Redbook, Seventeen, Total Film, and Us.  This parade of triumphs was quite enough to take her mind off a widely-publicized breakup with Benjamin Bratt.  In the wake of the September 11 tragedy, she donated $1 million each to two charities to help victims’ families.   This was Julia’s fifth overall year in the Glamour Girl Top Ten (her best: #4 in 1990).

 

)   6.CAMERON DIAZ: Only Pamela Anderson can top this incandescent blonde’s current streak of five consecutive years in the Glamour Girl Top Ten.  After her November 2000 smash “Charlie’s Angels” finished collecting its $123 million early in 2001, Cameron provided the voice of the princess in the year’s most massively successful animated film “Shrek” (over $267 million box office), and then played Tom Cruise’s sizzlingly sexy but dangerous lover in the year-end drama “Vanilla Sky.”  The 29-year-old California girl also found time for the limited-release drama “The Invisible Circus,” and the Showtime movie “Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her.” Her magazine covers this year didn’t feature any memorable standouts, but included Cleo, Harpers Bazaar, Looks, Premiere, and Us.  Stuff magazine ranked her as the world’s #1 sexiest babe, and she was a giddy prize winner at the MTV Movie Awards.

 

)   7.HALLE BERRY: In the most powerful screen performance of her career, Halle was stunning in the year-end Southern period drama “Monster’s Ball” which included an emotionally wrenching nude love scene with Billy Bob Thornton; the National Board of Review named her Best Actress, and she was immediately declared a prime contender for an Oscar.  The action thriller “Swordfish” was considerably less artistic, but earned nearly $70 million—thanks in part to Halle’s brief but memorable topless scene as bad guy John Travolta’s associate.  She was at her ravishing best in the April British Maxim (cover & superb 8-page glamour layout); had a terrific cheesecake cover & 6 pages in the June FHM; and treated us to a wonderful cleavage cover of the December Movieline.  Halle, 33, also graced the covers of Glamour En Espanol, Ocean Drive, Savoy, and Today‘s Black Woman; additionally, she was featured in the People “50 Most Beautiful” issue, won a People.com online poll as the sexiest woman alive, and her Pepsi commercials ran in theaters.  It’s Halle’s fourth straight year in the Glamour Girl Top Ten.

 

)   8.NICOLE KIDMAN: Bouncing back in spectacular fashion from an emotionally devastating breakup and subsequent divorce from Tom Cruise, the flame-haired Australian, 34, scored with perhaps the two strongest film roles of her career to date: as a sexy showgirl and courtesan in the wildly lavish musical “Moulin Rouge” (which surprised many by earning $57 million); and as a haunted, tightly-wound mother in the psychological thriller “The Others” (which soared over the $96 million mark at the box office).  In a rare honor, Nicole received two Golden Globe nominations as best actress in a musical or comedy and best actress in a drama.  The Dec. 21 Entertainment Weekly cover story declared Nicole the Entertainer of the Year; the May Interview cover feature included a semi-topless pose; and her cover for the June Glamour was lovely.  Among her other 2001 covers were Elle (British & French editions), Esquire (British edition), Good Housekeeping, Harpers Bazaar, In Style, Marie Claire, New Woman, People, Practical Photography, Premiere (French edition), Sight & Sound, Total Film, and Us.  Just to put icing on the cake of a remarkable year, Nicole had a year-end #1 record in England (and #2 across Europe) dueting with Robbie Williams on “Somethin’ Stupid,” accompanied by a semi-nude love scene in the music video.  Until now, Nicole’s best year-end Glamour Girl ranking was #10 in 1995.

 

)   9.PENELOPE CRUZ:  By sheer chance, the former Mrs. Tom Cruise is followed on our 2001 rankings by the 27-year-old Spanish enchantress who now graces Cruise’s arm.  Penelope’s year-end role as Cruise’s girl in the weird thriller “Vanilla Sky” at last gave her a major box office success, after the end-of-2000 drama “All the Pretty Horses” and the World War II romance “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” both failed to attract large audiences (although the latter film did include a brief topless love scene with Nicolas Cage).  She also appeared in the $53 million success “Blow” as drug dealer Johnny Depp’s girlfriend.  Penelope had several quite outstanding magazine covers this year, most notably the March Premiere (stunning cover), the March Vogue (cover pose topless with arms akimbo), the May Spanish Vogue (sultry cleavage cover & 6 pages), and the radiant cover of the September Vanity Fair.  Her other covers included Cleo, Elle En Espanol, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire (British edition), GQ (Spanish edition), Marie Claire, People En Espanol, and Total Film.  Loaded magazine ranked her as the sexiest woman in the world.

 

)  10.ANGELINA JOLIE: The numbers to the left reflect the steady, year-by-year rise of the seductively lush-lipped 27-year-old brunette to a position among the 10 top glamour girls in the world.  No one else could have possibly played “Lara Croft, Tomb Raider” with Angelina’s butt-kicking, body-baring flair, and the action flick was a $131 million smash.  The soggy drama “Original Sin” was a relative flop, but included steamy nude love scenes with Antonio Banderas that were worth the price of admission.  “Tomb Raider” was the theme for most of her 2001 magazine covers, the best of which were the June 15 Entertainment Weekly (sultry semi-topless cover pose), the July 5 Rolling Stone (with two semi-topless shots), and the July Marie Claire (one of her most alluring).  Other Angelina covers included Allure, Bold, Cinefantastique, Cinescape, Cosmopolitan (Italian edition), Dreamwatch, Empire, Esquire (British edition), Film Review, Hot Dog, Movieline, Starlog, and Total Film.  She was also a potent force on the Internet, rising as high as #4 on the Lycos Top 50 for total Web searches (only Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez attained higher weekly rankings).  Billy Bob Thornton’s lady was named the United Nations’ celebrity goodwill ambassador, and she donated $1 million to the U.N.’s Afghan refugee program.

 

 

)  11.SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR: It was another terrific year for “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” as the series moved from the WB to UPN with the emotion-packed story line of the heroine sacrificing her life to save her sister—and then being brought back from the grave by her friends in the fall season.  Sarah, 24, had a glamorous cover feature in the January British Esquire, a pretty cover of the June Allure, and a sexy cover & 7 pages in the August British FHM (the cover of the September Australian FHM had her in revealing dominatrix attire).  She also adorned the covers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer magazine, Celebrity Looks, Entertainment Weekly, Impact, The Net, Sci-Fi, Seventeen, Twist, and X-pose.

 

)  12.JANET JACKSON: Ms. Jackson was back on top of the pop music world as her album “All for You” went straight to #1; the title song was the nation’s #1 single for seven weeks, followup “Someone to Call My Lover” reached #3, and “Son of a Gun” hit the Top 40.  Her summer/fall national tour was one of the year’s most spectacularly successful, emphasizing her eroticism and magnificently-toned 35-year-old body as never before (selecting a male volunteer from the audience each night to strap into a gurney on stage, salaciously feel him up, and rub her body all over him).  Just as the song “All for You” plays up the star’s sexual preference for extra-large male organs, she freely discussed her size-queen tastes in the cover stories of the May Vibe and the June-July Maxim Presents Blender; her other hottest cover features were the August Black Men (splendid cleavage cover) and the September British Maxim (seductive cover & 5 pages including a semi-topless boudoir pose).  The covers of Billboard, Ebony (anniversary issue), Essence, Pulse, Rap-Up, Redbook, Shape Presents Fit Hollywood, Today‘s Black Woman, and TV Guide, also boasted Janet’s fetching image.  (Janet ranked as the #5 Glamour Girl in 1993.)

 

)  13.GENA LEE NOLIN: Years of fantasies were fulfilled as the stunning blonde posed nude for Playboy in a classic December cover & 10-page layout.  “Sheena” continued to be one of the most entertaining syndicated action series on the market, providing Gena with a perfect starring vehicle as the scantily-clad queen of the jungle.  The 30-year-old former Miss Las Vegas had an outstanding cover & 6 pages of pin-ups (including semi-topless) in the June-July issue of To the Edge; the cover & 6 pages in the May-June Femme Fatales; the cover & 7 pages with one topless pose in Play In the House #14; and barely-clad features in the January British Maxim, the February Stuff, and the July Front.  Additionally, Gena was on the cover of Ultrafit, and posed nude for a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) poster.

 

)  14.ESTELLA WARREN: One of the most achingly beautiful creatures on the planet (and indeed ranked as the year’s #1 babe by Celebrity Sleuth), the Canadian blonde supermodel, who turned 23 in late December, made her movie breakthrough clad in revealing animal skins as a captured human in the summer blockbuster remake of “Planet of the Apes” ($180 million at the box office), and less notably in the Sylvester Stallone car-racing flick “Driven.”  Estella had a near-topless cover & 8 sizzling pages in the September Italian GQ; a devastating October Cosmopolitan cover; the cover & a 12-page portfolio (including semi-nudes) in the October Photo; cover features in Talk and British Esquire; covers of British Elle and TV Guide (alternate cover); and barely-clad pictorials in Loaded and Italian Maxim.

 

)  15.KELLY BROOK: After four years of impressive consistency placing between #20 and #30 in the annual glamour girl rankings, the astonishingly gorgeous British brunette (who turned 22 in December) makes the big jump into the Top 20.  British Maxim declared Kelly as the #1 most dazzling bombshell of all time, and Loaded readers voted her the most desired woman in the U.K.  Kelly had a spectacular cover & 9 pages of pin-ups in the October Spanish magazine DT; a semi-topless cover & 4 pages in the November British Maxim; 3 pages semi-topless in the October Loaded; 5 pages of cheesecake in the December French Maximal; and also graced the covers of OK! and Stuff/The Best of Everything.  The budding actress filmed a four-episode guest role in the WB series “Smallville” to air starting in January 2002.

 

)  16.ELIZABETH HURLEY: With no new films in 2001, lovely Liz couldn’t match her #5 Glamour Girl ranking of the previous year, but was still a formidably feminine presence.  Her pin-up highlights of the year were on newsstands: the May issue of Arena (a sultry cover, 8 pages, and a remarkable 32-page “Goddess” separate insert of saucy poses); the November Movieline (a sensational, strategically-posed nude cover, with another semi-nude inside); and topless poses in the January Italian Max.   The 36-year-old British brunette had fine cover features in the February French FHM and the June British Elle, and also graced the covers of Madame Figaro and Self.  A Lady Godiva-style nude of Liz was published in the book Femme Fatale, and reprinted in the December British GQ.  Her 2000 film “Bedazzled” was a best-seller on home video, and she made a guest appearance on the ABC series “The Job.”  British Maxim ranked her as the #3 sexiest woman of all time.

 

)  17.JESSICA ALBA: “Sci-fi’s siren for the nest generation” (as described in the cover story of the March 16 Entertainment Weekly), Jessica acrobatically battled adversaries while never looking less than fabulous in the Fox fantasy-action series “Dark Angel,” which began its second season in the fall.  A delicious mixture of Mexican-American, French-Canadian, and Danish heritages, the 20-year-old knockout had a particularly gorgeous cover of the October Glamour; her other 2001 covers included Celebrity Skin, Celebrity Sleuth, Dreamwatch, Femme Fatales, Sci-Fi magazine, Seventeen, and TV Guide.  She’s engaged to her “Dark Angel” co-star Michael Weatherly.  Maxim ranked her as the year’s #1 sexiest woman.

 

(4) (1) (5) (7) (11)  18.TYRA BANKS: The 28-year-old ebony goddess is no less beautiful today than she was when she reigned as the #1 Glamour Girl in 1997, but a sharply curtailed modeling schedule this year made a higher ranking impossible.  Tyra’s 2001 highlight was a memorable lingerie-clad starring role in the November Victoria’s Secret prime-time special on ABC, and she was a regular presence in Victoria’s Secret catalogs and ads.  Her only covers this year were Celebrity Skin and the Italian mag L’Espresso; she also had 4 pages in To the Maxx #1, and 3 pages in the April Spanish Playboy.  Much of the supermodel’s spare time was taken up dating NBA star Chris Webber.

 

)  19.ANNA KOURNIKOVA: The sexiest athlete of all time spent little time on tennis courts in 2001 while recuperating from a broken foot, but her pin-up appeal burned as brightly as ever.  She was the fourth most popular woman on the Internet (according to Lycos), topped only by Britney Spears, Pamela Anderson, and Jennifer Lopez; her revamped website drew 200,000 average daily page views.  The 20-year-old Russian blonde had a hot cover (in shorts & partially unzipped top) & 5 pages in the July British GQ; a splendid cover & 7 pages in beach attire in the September FHM; and also adorned the covers of Opulence, Tennis magazine, and TV Globus.  Her workout video “Basic Elements: My Complete Fitness Guide” was a best-seller.

 

)  20.REBECCA ROMIJN-STAMOS: While the statuesque supermodel-turned-starlet’s new film “Rollberball” was delayed to early 2002 (making it impossible to repeat her #10 annual ranking in 2000), she maintained a steady schedule of magazine covers to maintain her lofty glamour status.  These included the March Elle, the May Cosmopolitan, the September Glamour, and also covers of The Look/In Style and German Petra magazine.  Additionally, the 29-year-old Dutch-American blonde was ranked among the year’s top ten babes by FHM, Loaded, and Tomorrow magazines.

 

)   21.Jaime Bergman: Electrifyingly beautiful blonde January 1999 Playmate, 26, enjoyed her second year playing innocently sexy lifeguard B.J. on the goofy FX comedy series “Son of the Beach,” but her highlight of 2001 was her late-November marriage to “Angel” star David Boreanaz.  Jaime had a superb cover & 8-page bikini layout in the June Spanish magazine DT; 6 pages nude in the June Spanish Playboy; the cover & 8 pages in scanty attire & bikinis in the year-end premiere issue of Stun; and good cleavage cover & 7 pages (with one semi-topless) in the December Gear. Her other noteworthy magazine appearances included at least 4 pages each in Edge magazine, Playboy‘s Sexy Celebrities, Playboy‘s Wet & Wild, Nude Playmates, and Playboy‘s Book of Lingerie.

 

)  22.Christina Aguilera: Just as big a tease as rival Britney Spears, the 21-year-old blonde tart (who reached that age in December) held the #1 position for 5 weeks teaming with Lil’ Kim, Mya, & Pink for a remake of “Lady Marmalade”; in the red-hot video (named the year’s best at the MTV Video Music Awards), the gals portray hookers, with lingerie-clad Christina smilingly peeling off her elbow-length gloves.  She also reached the Top 15 dueting with Ricky Martin in “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely,” and her Spanish-language album won the Latin Grammy for best pop female album.  Christina did commercials for Coca-Cola, and ranked among the year’s 10 hottest women on the Internet.  Her most memorable magazine feature of the year was a very spicy cover & 7 pages in the October issue of Front; her other covers included Celebrity Skin, Complete Woman, Teen Hairstyles, & Teen People, plus a 3-page layout in British Maxim.

 

)  23.Beyonce’ Knowles: The teen R&B group Destiny’s Child ruled the pop charts during 2001 with the mega-smashes “Independent Women” (#1 for 11 weeks starting at the end of 2000), “Bootylicious” (also #1), and “Survivor” (#2), plus the chart-topping album “Survivor,” and lovely Beyonce’ was always at center stage as lead singer, songwriter, and primary sex symbol.  The group won two Grammies and five Billboard Music Awards, and shared many magazine covers, most notably the steamy-hot May 24 Rolling Stone (“Booty Camp!” cover in scanty attire) and the October Cosmopolitan.  Their other covers included Black Men, British Esquire, Cosmo Girl, Interview, Seventeen, Stuff, Teen magazine, Teen Celebrity, Teen People, Teen Style, and Vibe.  Individually, the golden-haired 20-year-old starred in an MTV hip-hop remake of “Carmen,” was ranked as the #1 sexiest woman in music by Rap-Up magazine, and graced the cover of Ebony.

 

)  24.Gisele Bundchen: The “Boobs from Brazil,” 21, had few rivals in the fashion world in 2001, commanding top prices and dominating newsstands.  Gisele’s hottest magazine appearance was actually not a cover, but a 5-page feature with excellent semi-nude in the December W magazine, at the same time she was featured in ABC’s highly-rated Victoria’s Secret lingerie special.  Just a sampling of her magazine covers included the British (three times), Italian (twice), & U.S. (twice) editions of Vogue, the German & Italian editions of GQ, American Photo, Photo (French magazine), Pop, Tatler, and W.  Both Celebrity Sleuth and Maxim ranked her among the year’s 10 hottest babes.

 

(30) (2) (1) (5) (13)  25.Laetitia Casta: France’s official symbol of femininity (as the model for the image of Marianne), Laetitia was delightfully ubiquitous in print and TV lingerie ads for Victoria’s Secret, although her presence on magazine newsstands was reduced from recent years.  The stunning 23-year-old brunette’s best cover was the August Cosmopolitan; her other covers included Spanish Cosmo and I-D.  She was also featured in Celebrity Sleuth (as the #3 sex bomb of 2001), German GQ (lingerie layout), and Photo magazine, and was ranked as the #1 babe by the website Ask Men.

 

)  26.Mariah Carey: A year that the sexy songstress had hoped would be one of triumph turned out to be “the year of the meltdown” as she was hospitalized for an emotional breakdown just prior to the dismal failure of her starring film debut, “Glitter” (barely over $4 million at the box office).  The soundtrack was almost as big a commercial disappointment despite the #2 hit single “Loverboy” (with her barely-clad sex bomb video), leading to the termination of her lucrative record contract by EMI/Virgin.  However, the plucky 31-year-old New Yorker bounced back to entertain U.S. troops in Kosovo and star in a CBS holiday special.  Mariah’s cover layout for the August Movieline (cover pose in a mostly pulled-down nightie, and one inside pose in black miniskirt with topd to reveal most of her cleavage) was one of the year’s hottest; her other covers included Allure, Billboard, Cleo, British Cosmo, Cosmo Girl, Elle, German In Style, and Latina.  This is Mariah’s 12^th straight year in the Glamour Girls Top 40.

 

)  27.Madonna: The material girl spent most of 2001 on a virtually sold-out tour of Europe and the United States, concluding in August with an HBO concert special.  The eternally glamorous 43-year-old blonde hit the Top Five with “Don’t Tell Me,” the Top 25 with “What It Feels Like for a Girl,” and released a second greatest-hits album at year’s end. )  74.Kim Cattrall: Reaching her sex-symbol peak at age 45, the saucy British blonde was more erotically charged than ever as insatiable Samantha on HBO’s “Sex and the City,” launching into a lesbian affair with glamour legend Sonia Braga, and then going back to bedding a succession of men.  The June 22 Entertainment Weekly cover on the show had Kim barely clad only in a towel, and she starred in two Pepsi commercials playing off her image: one in an NFL locker-room bathtub, and another as a sexy Little Red Riding Hood.  Most fascinatingly, at year’s end she and her husband published a rather explicit book on sexual satisfaction.

)  76.Jeri Ryan: “Star Trek: Voyager” ended its successful run with a series finale in May; the voluptuous blonde then enjoyed a smooth transition from skintight catsuited Borg vixen Seven of Nine to a lawyer-turned-public schoolteacher in the fall season of the Fox drama “Boston Public”—delighting pin-up fans with a shower scene in her first episode.  Jeri, 33, had an alternate “Voyager” cover in TV Guide, and a glamorous cover and enclosed 8x10 glossy in a fall issue of SFX devoted to the sci-fi series.  At the beginning of 2001 she was briefly in theaters with the schlocky horror film “Dracula 2000.”

 

)  77.Julianne Moore: Taking over from Jodie Foster in her Oscar-winning role of Clarice Starling, Julianne (with Anthony Hopkins) overcame negative reviews to earn more than $160 million at the box office with the gory “Hannibal.”  She didn’t fare nearly as well with the flop comedy “Evolution,” and at year’s end drew a mixed response with the classy but slow-moving drama “The Shipping News.”  The elegant 41-year-old blonde had a splendidly sexy cover feature in the March Vanity Fair, and a nice leg-art/cleavage cover feature in the July GQ; additionally, she had “Hannibal” covers for Entertainment Weekly and Premiere, and was included among People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful.”

)  82.Mandy Moore: Cute 17-year-old blonde pop star (who switched hair colors to brown late in the year) was unable to score a hit single from her third album “Mandy Moore,” which reached #35 in Billboard.   But she diversified by moving into movies, laying a bitchy high schooler in the hit chick-flick “The Princess Diaries.”   Mandy had a bikini cover for the May YM, also served as cover girl for Girls’ Life, Seventeen Makeover, & Teen magazine, and co-hosted the Miss Teen USA pageant.  Just as she was a year ago, Mandy is the youngest member of the Top 100.

 

)  83.Elle Macpherson: The Australian supermodel heated up TV screens with the steamiest role of her career, as lesbian lover of Kate Capshaw (including lingering close-ups of Elle’s bare bosom) in the January Showtime cable movie “A Girl Thing”; the two leading ladies shared the cover of the lesbian magazine Girlfriends.  Still a world-class beauty at 37, Elle had the cover & 4 pages on the beach in the July Red, and co-hosted the Miss Universe pageant.  The Sports Illustrated swimsuit icon had seven years in the Glamour Girls Top Ten between 1985 and 1994.

 

)  84.Jennifer Connelly: Jennifer’s year began promisingly with good notices for her performances in two small independent films released at the end of 2000: the drug-addiction drama “Requiem for a Dream” (including a nude scene) and in “Pollack” as the great artist’s lover.  It ended in still greater triumph with the release of “A Beautiful Mind,” with Jennifer as the fiercely devoted wife of a troubled genius played by Russell Crowe; the film did not go into full release until January 2002, but immediately earned talk of an Oscar nomination for the gorgeous brunette, who turned 31 in December.

 

)  85.Sarah Jessica Parker: HBO’s “Sex and the City” enjoyed another year of soaring ratings and rave reviews, including both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Sarah as best actress in a TV comedy for her performance as ever-stylish Carrie; this followed her hit end-of-2000 big-screen comedy “State & Main.”  Sarah had covers of Complete Woman, Harpers Bazaar & New Woman, and shared “Sex” cast covers of Entertainment Weekly & People (a special edition entirely devoted to the show).  In the fall, Sarah (36) appeared in the Broadway dark comedy “Wonder of the World.”

 

)  86.Jaime Pressly: Sexy blonde starlet was at least consistent with roles in three goofball comedies: “Tomcats,” “Joe Dirt,” and “Not Another Teen Movie.”   The highlight of Jaime’s year was her semi-topless cover & 7 pages in the December Maxim; she also had the cover & 6 pages of leg art in the June Stuff and a 6-page bikini layout in the July Loaded.  Stuff ranked the 24-year-old North Carolina native as the #7 sexiest babe.

 

)  87.Mena Suvari: “American Pie 2” didn’t give the saucy blonde nearly as much screen time as the original, but still stacked up nicely as a $145 million hit.  The bank-robbing-cheerleaders comedy “Sugar & Spice” grabbed some positive reviews, but not much at the box office; the swashbuckling romance “Musketeer” will be quickly forgotten.  Mena, 22, shared the “Pie” girls’ bikini cover of the August 30 Rolling Stone, had 5 pages on the beach in the March Loaded, was an Arena cover girl, and was ranked and the year’s #9 sexiest by Maxim.
